The Sprague Lab at MUSC

Improving Health, One Pathway at a Time

John

Staff Scientist

I am a synthetic organic chemist who joined the Sprague lab to work collaboratively with other groups at MUSC who are in need of small molecules for their studies. I am originally from Knoxville, TN and attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville for undergrad before moving to Nashville for a PhD in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University. After taking a year to do consulting work for a company developing high-end cosmetics, I returned to Vanderbilt for post-doctoral studies in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry at the Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery (WCNDD). I am excited to work with so many people in the collaborative atmosphere at MUSC and see the translational benefits from years of study put to good use while helping to build an amazing lab environment!

Outside of work I tend to be a homebody with my girlfriend and our two cats, but I am greatly looking forward to exploring a new area and taking advantage of the warm weather to get back into some outdoor adventures like kayaking and tennis. I am also a fan of almost any sport and good food, so the Fall will typically find me with some combination of the two on weekends (probably more stressed than I’d like to be).
